About the Intermediate School

South Fayette Intermediate School

South Fayette Intermediate School is home to the township's third, fourth, and fifth grade students. First opened in 2013, the Intermediate School was constructed with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) at the heart of the building and the educational program. Students at the Intermediate School spend time in one of three STEAM studios engaging in authentic, project-based learning experiences that incorporate and extend the math, science, social studies, and English language arts curricula. Educators at the Intermediate School continue the district's focus on literacy and number sense, developing students' verbal and mathematical reasoning skills while exposing them to a variety of opportunities in the arts and technology. In addition to the six special area courses embedded in the building schedule, students in grades three, four, and five may participate in orchestra, band, and choir ensembles, as well as after school clubs in computer programming, art, and drama. Students at the Intermediate School are also civic-minded. They raise money for a number of charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association, Beverly's Birthdays, the District's annual holiday food and gift drive, spearheaded by the Elementary School. On the first Friday of each month, students attend a building-wide ROAR assembly. ROAR (Respect, Ownership, Appreciation, and Reflection) is an acronym for the Intermediate School's homegrown character education program based upon the tenets of the Dignity and Respect campaign.
